Current Hair Struggle

I went to the hair salon Friday before last.

I normally wash my hair once a week.

"House of Cards" came out so there was no way I was washing my hair last Friday.

I had to pick up one of my Elders on Saturday morning so there was no way I was washing it Saturday morning and risk being late.  (I don't want no trouble.)

Got home late Saturday and well..."House of Cards."

Sunday morning I had to get organized for the week right quick and then ran out of time because, again..."House of Cards."

Mondays are my off days and I simply didn't feel like it since I wasn't going anywhere, seeing anybody, doing anything.  ('Cept I ended up taking Jaru to the doctor in the rain.)

Today?  I'm actually for real working.  Not happening unless someone comes up in here and does it for me.

Tomorrow doesn't make sense because it's Wednesday and I have a hair appointment first thing Thursday morning.

Buns are my friends.

TELL ME I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON THIS KINDA STUFF HAPPENS TO SOMETIMES!!!!!!  PLEASE!  I REALLY NEED TO FEEL NORMAL RIGHT NOW!

BE.STRONG.

I don't understand when people allow the negative voice of a negative person creep into their thoughts constantly.  I don't understand how people don't consider the source when they are listening and deciding what to take from a "voice."

When the voice in your head starts mimicking the most negative things you've ever heard...it's time to renew.  When the people who claim to love you say the most hateful and hurtful things to, about and which affect you directly...it's time to see them exactly as they are and vow to NEVER be like them.  You are already a better person than they will ever be because you know you'd NEVER say some shit like that to someone you claim to love or hell...even strangers you probably won't ever care for.

Be selfish with your pride.

Be joyful with yourself.

Put in the work.

Negative voices talk to everyone.  Only the strongest know how to block that ish out with accomplishment.

Adult Basic Education and Schooling

I met a young lady today who would love to go to veterinary school but says she’s not good at math and science. I asked her was she a good student and she said not really and that the schools she went too weren’t good schools and she never really learned anything although she always wanted to learn more.
I told her that it sounded like she just needed to get a tutor to help her re-learn the basic fundamentals and that, with her current drive and passion, she should be able to go to community college and then transfer to a university with a good veterinary school.
I said all of this in that nice lady super encouraging way.
When she left the room though? I was pissed the hell off. The educational system failed so many babies like that one and now they feel stuck with the chips falling as they may.
It made me MAD!
And then?
I got sad.
*sigh*

Did  you go to good schools?  Did you feel you were prepared enough to get to where you wanted to go next?  Did you see people who looked like you succeeding in areas you wanted to succeed in?  Who inspired you and made you keep propelling forward when you felt you were dragging your azz getting things done?

What advice would you give to a young adult who felt as this young lady felt?  Where would you tell her to start?

New! AudioBlog

I've been meaning to do this for a while now but I'll start adding audio versions of some of the longer blog posts.  A friend told me that she doesn't have time to read much these days but if she could listen to the longer blog posts while on the treadmill she totally would.

Robby thinks it would be cool too so okay...I'll do that.  When I have time.

I hope you enjoy this!  They will be housed on Soundcloud here:  That Gumbo Life

How to Cook Pork Ribeyes

Recently I ran across a cut of pork I'd never heard of.  They had a good look to them so I bought them and then asked Mr. Google for the optimal way to prepare them.

According to Mr. Google...melt two tablespoons of butter and add two tablespoons of olive oil to a pan on high heat.  Before butter turns brown, add pork that has been sprinkled with fresh cracked pepper and sea salt.  Cook for 3 minutes and then flip.  Cook for another 3 minutes.

You can add a mushroom wine sauce or something to it but we didn't yet and we've had it twice.  When I tell yall they are so delicious and tender?????  Man!  AMAZING!

They are currently my new favorite pork under bacon because...BACON.

I now add red pepper flakes and parsley to them but pretty much cook them the same.

And then I eat them the same.  Quickly.  With wine.  LOL!

Have you ever had them?  Ever even heard of them?
