Ebola Musings

I know this picture has nothing to do with Ebola but I stumbled on it this morning and it made me burst out laughing.  LOL!  Just a HOT.FONKY.FRIED.MESS!  NO MORE GOLF FOR YOU OBAMA!

I know this picture has nothing to do with Ebola but I stumbled on it this morning and it made me burst out laughing.  LOL!  Just a HOT.FONKY.FRIED.MESS!  NO MORE GOLF FOR YOU OBAMA!

If I contracted Ebola...I wouldn't allow them to release my name while I was being treated.  And you're damn sure not getting a picture of me to put up on the screen every 5 minutes.

So...the bride-to-be didn't just fly on her own.  She took the proper channels and asked the CDC to be cleared to fly and only flew once she received clearance.  Seriously CDC?  And this is why I'm still not surprised that the first patient was misdiagnosed.  They were woefully unprepared.

But hey...the CDC underwent budget cuts for emergency services back in 2012 and well...that wasn't a Republican driven decision...that was something agreed upon across the board.  So yeah...dumb move by all.  DUMB.DUMB.DUMB.

Racist Uncle, "They bet not let that lil' Black girl die.  The White people didn't die.  They let that lil' Black girl die and that dude's cousin is going to be back in the news talking about a stupid c-o-n-spiracy."

And he's right...people will keep up the c-o-n-spiracy talks.  Now...it doesn't make it true...but he's right.  We all know that they caught all the other people's symptoms MUCH earlier.  They just all happened to be White.  Bride-to-be knew her co-worker had it before she rolled out to Cleveland so yeah...she probably had it in her system the same amount of time but didn't start getting treatment days later.  They don't know enough about the disease for me.  No telling what the early symptoms do.

I'm glad they took her to Emory.  I know she's glad too.  Damn shame seeing as though she WORKS in a hospital but they had to take her to another hospital for proper treatment.

*BLINK*

I saw a dude from her flight on the news.  He said he bleached his luggage.  How does one go about that exactly?  And...does the virus live on inanimate objects?  In his defense, however, ain't no telling what it does and doesn't do because CLEARLY the information the CDC has provided us thus far is not comprehensive.

Yeah...that's the word of the day.

Dallas is asking for disaster status.  Whatchall think?  Warranted?

Head of the CDC is going in front of Congress today.  Me feel like he's about to be whupped to death.  Poor guy.

Are YOU doing anything differently because of the Ebola?  How would you feel if you were one of those passengers on the plane with her?  Would you feel some kinda way if you were on the same plane, later in the day, that she flew on earlier?

Monica Mingo's Creole Jumbo Gumbo Recipe!

**NOTE!  PUT THE GREEN ONIONS IN THE POT AT THE END WHEN YOU TURN OFF THE HEAT AND LET SIT FOR 30 MINUTES!!!!!**  THE DOWNLOAD LINK HAS BEEN UPDATED AS OF 12:18 PM, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2011.

Aiight people!  Yall have been asking for a more intense gumbo recipe than the lightweight one I created for yall before:  Super Simple Super Bowl Gumbo

The last time I made gumbo...I changed my family recipe up enough so I could make it work into something I was comfortable with sharing for those of you who want to try your hand at something a bit more intense.

(Mainly because I couldn't find some key ingredients that I needed for my family recipe.)

Here it is.  Use it wisely.  Don't make me cut yall.

Dry Rub for Oven Grilled Ribeyes!

The other day I wanted a restaurant ribeye but I didn't feel like combing my hair so I bought a FABULOUS ribeye (almost 1.5 inches thick, small "eye" with perfect marbling throughout) and mixed up a restaurant dry rub.

I wish I could tell you exactly how much of everything I used because I can't...but I got a bowl and put in the following ingredients:

Brown sugar

Kosher salt

Cayenne pepper

Garlic powder

Smoked paprika

Then...I added a bit of olive oil.  Enough that it made it a wet paste.

I rubbed my steak down all over and allowed it to sit while it reached room temperature.

When the steak was ready...I put a cast iron skillet in the oven for twenty minutes on 'BROIL' before I put my steak on for 6 minutes on one side and 6 minutes on the other side.  Then...I let it rest on the plate I was going to eat it on for 5 minutes.  I added potatoes and kale.

And I ate myself foolish.

That was pretty much one of the best rubs I've ever made.  Just...wow.

What dry rub do you use on steaks?  What do you do when you grill steaks inside?

The Move that Won't Quit

The speed by which this move came up on us left me woefully unprepared.  I'm in the middle of re-writes and I had to focus on that straight up.

We went through several different iterations of how we'd do the move.  Leave stuff here, stay with family until beginning of year all the way to the current plan which is to rent a house down there temporarily until we figure out where we will buy/build.

So...the search for a rental house started and the pickings were slim.  For a temporary move, we didn't need much...just simple you know?  The less money we spend, the more money we save towards next house.

The first house we liked became unavailable so we had to look for another house.  We got the other house but it won't be available until November 1...so...we wait.

And it's killing me.

I'm living in complete chaos.  Boxes packed, furniture moved around.  Art off walls.  Curtains down.  Patching up going on.  Hey...you know the deal.

And now...my new problem?  The Robinator decided that maybe I'm not equipped for the drive down so he'll fly up and drive down with Jaru and I'll fly down.  For some odd reason, he seems to think I can't do a super long road trip.  Wonder where he got that idea?  Well...that's all fine and dandy with me but guess what?  Penske's vehicle towing thingy doesn't fit my truck.

*BLINK*

No really...*BLINK*

Wheels are too wide or something or the other is what the rep told me.

*BLINK*

I don't have the big Rover.

I have the baby one.

But it's too big.

*BLINK*

I've seen mini-vans being hauled but my truck is too wide?

I will solve this problem too.

I have to.

I'm not having a good day.

Tell me something good.

Please.
