45 YEARS OLD AGING AS GRACEFULLY AS I CAN.

LIFE SHOULD BE CHOCK FULL OF DOING EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO DO!

My name is Monica Mingo and I'm a simple woman.  I love my husband, my dog and our family, framily (friends who are more like family) and friends.   I love beautiful flowers, a clean and comfortable home and cooking for those I love.  I'm not a parent but I am blessed to have many children in my life.  I'm a child abuse survivor, a cancer survivor and an infertility survivor.  My parents are deceased at the hands of my father and I struggle constantly with memories of my childhood.

Life has made me work hard at finding and choosing happy but I do because I know what an amazing feeling it is to be happy and surrounded by those you love and who love you so it's the only way I ever want to be.  I tell my story freely because I know life has been complicated and difficult for many of us and I want people to know that you control your steps.  You can always start building the life you want to build.

I am the co-writer/director/producer of a feature-length film, THE COALITION, which is currently distributed by Magnolia Pictures and is featured on Netflix (often in the ‘Popular’ section), Showtime and The Movie Channel. I am also the writer, director and producer of three short films, one of which premiered at the 2011 Cannes International Film Festival Short Film Corner (WHEN BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE DO UGLY THINGS). I also produced the short film, COMMITMENT, which was presented at the 2012 Cannes International Film Festival.

I have triumphed over some big challenges in my life and I have figured out how to find happy. I believe this journey is helpful when I’m telling a story and brings a perspective to my directing that is unique. I spent several years in leadership for a crisis management firm based in Washington, DC before attending film school and now I know more than anything that being a filmmaker is what I’m here to do.

I have been told I work at this harder than anybody, but it doesn’t feel like work to me. I have a passion and drive for filmmaking that fuels me to work around the clock when needed and meet commitments made to my producing partners, cast and crew. I direct and produce with agility in mind – striving to craft true-to-life stories that reach the heart and soul of the audience with quality production, compelling visuals, and relatable dialogue.  I am a finisher – completing what I start and working to create movies with big-budget look and feel while maintaining an understanding of value for service or product.

I believe that the breadth of my experience – whether in corporate America, as a wife, or as a cancer survivor – allows me to relate to many different types of people and environments and then bring this understanding to the screen. I am a filmmaker and I show you what I want you to see.
